Statement of Faith

  1. We believe the Bible, the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only infallible, inspired and authoritative Word of God.

  2. We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons, God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

  4. We believe that God created man, male and female, in His own image.

  5. We believe that Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God brought sin into the world. Man thus alienated himself from God, his neighbor, and the world. All mankind except Jesus Christ are born sinners, have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

  6. We believe Jesus Christ is the ONLY Savior of sinners, the ONLY way to the Father. Christ died as a substitute for sinners and was raised from the dead so that man could be reconciled to God.

  7. We believe that eternal life is a gift of God received personally through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Eternal life is neither deserved by anyone nor can it be earned by good deeds.

  8. We believe that the true Church is composed of all persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, are united together in the body of Christ. The Church finds her visible, yet imperfect, expression in local congregations where the Word of God is preached in its purity; where the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are administered in their integrity; where scriptural discipline is practiced; and where loving fellowship is maintained.

  9. We believe that God has charged parents with the responsibility of bringing up their children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)

  10. We believe that God created humanity as distinctly and exclusively either male or female from the beginning, and that He blessed His created design as very good. We believe that every human’s true gender identity is identical to the genetic, biological sex with which they were born. We believe that God blesses submission to and acceptance of His created design. We believe God disapproves of and forbids any and all attempts to alter one’s gender through surgery, medicinal manipulation, appearance, or expression contrary to His created design. (Genesis 1:26-28, 31, 2:23-24; Matthew 19:4-6)

    • We believe that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, given to represent His love for the church, to continue the human race, and to bless humanity. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one biological male and one biological female in a covenant commitment before God. (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; Romans 7:2; 1 Corinthians 7:2, 10; Ephesians 5:22-33)

    • We believe that God has commanded that there should be no intimate sexual activity outside of a marriage between a biological male and a biological female. We believe that any relationships or activities involving homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgenderism, pedophilia, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, or pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. (Genesis 2:24, 19:5, 13; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-32; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4)

    • In keeping with our beliefs regarding the purpose BHA and regarding human sexuality, as expressed in this statement of faith, our doctrine necessitates the following:

      • All students are welcome to enroll, for we believe that all people need and deserve to hear the truth of the Gospel.

      • Those who enroll may not display and promote behavior that demonstrates violations of the sinful behaviors listed in this section.

      • Administration, teachers, and staff shall enforce the doctrinal position of this school, but shall not display overt disrespect for those who condone or display the sinful behaviors listed in this section.

  11. We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the physical or mental well being of the mother are acceptable. (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)

  12. We believe we are created in God’s image. Scripture teaches that all human beings are created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27 says, “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and overall the creatures that move along the ground. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’ “

    • Due to Adam’s sin, the Bible describes people either in Christ (saved) or in Adam (unsaved). The Bible presents humanity in one of these two groups based on the free grace of God, repentance, and becoming a new creation.

    • The Biblical worldview begins with God as the almighty and sovereign ruler of the universe (Genesis 1:1). God is creator of all things and as such he is the standard for all truth. (John 1:1-3). All people enter the world in the position of being in Adam with a sin nature and in rebellion against God (Romans 5:12). But through the grace of God, those who repent and believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died for the sins of all people and then rose from the dead to proclaim victory over sin and then ascended to the Father in heaven, move into being a new creation willing and able to obey and enjoy a restored relationship with God (Romans 6:11).

    • Rather than seeing people as either white or black, or oppressor and oppressed, the Bible sees people as those who have a need to restore their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-10 says in this regard: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork (masterpiece), created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

    • The Bible de-emphasizes cultural differences and emphasizes oneness in Christ (Galatians 3:27-29). The Bible speaks of the unity of all believers. The people of God are beautifully multiethnic and so Christians are to be united as one people, proclaiming on gospel, and worshiping one Lord.

    • This is confirmed in the book of Revelation when we see a vision of heaven in Revelation 7:9: “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.” From the beginning, God planned to gather for himself a people from every nation. All who desire to come will be welcomed.
